Entrance to Tambomachay. Visit the Tambomachay archaeological complex, located 30 minutes from the historic center of Cusco. At Tambomachay, you’ll find ceremonial fountains with a continuous flow of water, aqueducts carved in stone, and stepped terrace walls. You can also see the still-functioning hydraulic engineering system, with carved stone channels carrying crystal-clear spring water.
Tambomachay
In Tambomachay, there are two main fountains or waterfalls fed by aqueducts. These are believed to have been sites of purification and water worship, and it is thought they may have been the Inca’s baths. There is also a watchtower that served for surveillance and communication with the upper sector. To enter Tambomachay, you must have the Cusco Tourist Ticket (Circuit 1), which costs 70 soles for foreigners and 40 soles for Peruvians. This ticket also allows you to visit Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay.
You can purchase the partial tourist ticket at the tourist attraction itself or in Cusco city (Av. Sol 103). Please bring cash (soles); credit/debit cards are not accepted.
How to get there:
• The best option is a tour (Cusco City Tour), which also includes visits to Puca Pucara, Qenqo, and Sacsayhuaman. All of these destinations are part of the Cusco City Tour. You can book this tour with our travel agency as a private or shared service.
